Breed History
When members of the German court of Weimar went on dangerous wolf and bear hunts, they relied on a special dog. Their choice was the Weimaraner's early ancestor: A swift, brave, intelligent mix of hunting dogs and Bloodhounds. Since the late 19th century, Weimaraners have formed a distinct, recognized breed, although no dogs were bred outside Germany until the 1930's.
Noted for their distinct silver-gray coloring, these large dogs exist in both short and long-haired varieties. Provided that they receive firm control and plenty of exercise, Weimaraners make cherished pets.
