Himalayan Exporters
Unlike many cat breeds that originally evolved without deliberate effort, the Himalayan resulted from intentional cross-breeding. Two Harvard Medical School employees mated a black Persian with a Siamese in an effort to create a cat that mimicked the coat and body of teh Persian, but sported the Siamese color. The first offspring, now called a Himalayan, was born in 1935 and the breed's popularity has grown ever since.

Known in parts of Europe as the Colorpoint Longhair, Himalayans exist today in many colors, including cream, lilac, chocolate, blue, seal, tortie and lynx color points. Solid chocolate or lilac Himalayans are sometimes called Kashmirs.
